The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) has joined the Royal College of Midwives and the Society and College of Radiographers in releasing guidelines emphasising the importance of a non-directive approach to prenatal screening for Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome and Patau’s syndrome.

This week, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK issued new guidelines, stressing to members not to place any pressure on parents to opt for an abortion when a baby is diagnosed with Down Syndrome or any other disability.

The change in the guidelines represents a small but nonetheless important step in the right direction.
