Born weighing just 400 grams, baby Talia has overcome incredible challenges after entering the world at only 22 weeks and 5 days. Her birth was so sudden that she remained inside her amniotic sac, while her skin was thin and transparent due to her extreme prematurity.

Medical staff at King’s College Hospital in Dubai acted promptly to save her life, providing advanced breathing support and intubation. Like many babies born so early, Talia faced significant medical hurdles, including infection concerns that required treatment with powerful antibiotics.

Right to Life UK reports the baby’s doctor, Dr Maria Theresa Reyes, as saying her medical team had never treated a baby quite like Talia before. “We have had several 23-week infants weighing around 500 grams with excellent outcomes,” Dr Reyes said. “But Talia is our first 22-week infant, weighing just 400 grams. She is the smallest 22-weeker ever reported in the UAE.”

Talia spent four months in intensive care before finally being discharged home. Weighing 2.6kg, she showed no signs of long-term health complications. Reflecting on the journey, her mother Jade said their daughter had taught them the true meaning of strength and that they would always be grateful to the neonatal intensive care team who helped make her survival possible.
