Sinn Féin’s bill to remove the three-day abortion waiting period passed Second Stage in the Dáil last night and will now move into Committee Stage. The Bill passed by 86 votes to 70 with 17 absentees. While the results was disappointing for the pro-life cause, the campaign to protect the three-day wait is far from over and will now be ramping up!
Notably, there were no abstentions to the vote, with every TD present taking a clear position on the proposal.
*Please note that Deputy Eamon Scanlon is listed on the Oireachtas website as voting “Yes” and Deputy Martin Daly as voting “No”. However, this is because the two TDs were seated in each other’s seats in the Dáil Chamber at the time of the vote.

I cannot open the lists. Do I need to be on Facebook?
Hi Mary, they are listed in the images here. Please send us an email if you are still having trouble and we can send you a link directly.
The 17 tds who failed to attend the vote could have saved it from being lost. Surely a derilction of duty to their constituents. The fact they never attended suggests they were on the side of no but for political reasons thought it best not to vote. As for those who voted yes there is no even more blood on their hands. I’m sure if it was a vote on saving the lives of rare insects or a lizard they would have had more compassion.
