Rosalie Markezich, a young woman from Louisiana, recounts how her boyfriend coerced her into taking abortion drugs obtained online. Her short video with Alliance Defending Freedom is a powerful contribution to the debate. We encourage you to watch it here.

Dr Kirsten Fuller, Senator Sarah O’Reilly and others raised the issue of coercive abortion at the recent Oireachtas Health Committee hearings on the three-day wait.

However, the Government’s response to the issue has so far been truly awful. The fear of upsetting the pro-abortion side even slightly seems to be at the heart of this pervasive denialism. How else can we explain the outright refusal to engage with or take action on the issue?

Already in 2026, a number of men in Ireland have been charged and sentenced to prison for coercing their partners into taking abortion pills. Yet not a peep from the Government about the scourge of coercive abortion or what it is doing to tackle it.

The lack of urgency and attention given to this issue by the political establishment is shocking. We have to be prepared to fight hard to end this wilful blindness and create an environment where challenging the pro-abortion side is accepted, normalised and free from fear.
