Last week, a pro-life counselling centre in the US was notified by federal law enforcement to take extra precautions as they are once again the target of a possible arson attack from extreme pro-abortion groups.
Compass Care and Past Attacks
The pro-life centre, Compass Care, based in Buffalo, New York, was previously firebombed in 2022 after the leaking of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, the case that overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalised abortion.
After the destruction of the Buffalo office, the group Jane’s Revenge issued a statement taking responsibility, that included the following:
“We promised to take increasingly drastic measures [which] may not come in the form of something so easily cleaned up as fire and graffiti.”
Violence Against Pro-Life Centres
Groups like Compass Care have been targeted since 2022 by pro-abortion individuals, simply for providing women considering abortion with free ethical alternatives.
Since the Supreme Court’s decision in 2022, there have been over 100 violent attacks on pro-life centres across the US, including firebombings. A female pro-life volunteer was shot and injured when canvassing in Michigan. And there was the case of the man charged with the attempted assassination of pro-life Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh – another deeply troubling development.
Rising Tensions
Tensions in the US will likely continue to rise in the coming weeks as the incoming administration takes control of the levers of power – something that pro-abortion groups fear greatly and are determined to resist.
Media Silence
The mainstream media has been very reluctant to report on the violence being perpetrated against pro-life groups and individuals. Their silence and indifference only give succour and encouragement to those carrying out the attacks.
Let’s pray that everyone on all sides of the debate remains safe and unharmed during this disturbing and volatile period.
