Referring this week to the startling statistic that 133 boys are born for every 100 girls in China, Reggie Littlejohn, President of the human rights organisation Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, said: “Such a vast gender imbalance cannot be achieved naturally. It can only be achieved through the sex-selective abortion of baby girls – through gendercide.”

Ms Littlejohn was speaking following the release of the annual report of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China in the United States. She noted: “The report does not provide a statistic on how many third children are born in China each year. It is, therefore, not possible to determine how many female third children were selectively aborted because of their gender. The report does, however, state that in 2023, there were an estimated 30 million more males living in China than females. This gender imbalance in turn is a powerful, driving force behind human trafficking and sexual slavery, in China and the surrounding countries.”

Ms Littlejohn, who has spent more than two decades combatting gendercide and human trafficking, also criticised the official organisers of International Women’s Day this week for failing to mention gendercide as a violation of the rights of baby girls who are selectively aborted simply because they are female.

She has visited Ireland on several occasions in connection with her work and has previously addressed the Pro Life Campaign National Conference in Dublin as the keynote speaker.
