The rate of adverse events from the abortion pill has increased significantly in the US according to a new report from the highly reputable Ethics and Public Policy Centre.

The rate of serious adverse events was 10.15% when a requirement was in effect that women visit health clinics in person to obtain the pill. But the report cites a 13% increase in adverse events over the past five years after the in person requirement was removed.

EPPC President Ryan T. Anderson said they reported in 2025 that the data showed chemical abortion was 22 times more dangerous for women than the FDA previously admitted. He said however that the latest data shows the use of chemical abortion became even more dangerous again in recent years following the removal of the in-person doctor consultation before accessing abortion pills.

Mr Anderson said: “So not only is it dangerous, but allowing online, mail-order abortion pills made it even worse.” He said this further underscores the need for the FDA to restore the in-person doctor visit requirement.

“Do not play politics with women’s lives,” Anderson said. “Every day you delay the return of the in-person doctor visit requirement, is a day when more women are placed at risk. Women deserve better.”
