A mother whose unborn son died after a crash has said TDs will publish a draft bill bearing her child’s name by the end of the month. Saoirse Aylward, who lost her unborn son Jax in the crash that happened in 2024 has expressed her upset that unborn babies who die in road accidents are not recognised in law.

On Tuesday, she met Oireachtas members from across the political divide as part of her campaign to change the law. She said “the cross-party support makes clear that this is a road safety issue, it is not a contentious issue, and it is just common sense”.

The words she used in recent media interviews to describe her precious son were truly beautiful. We extend our deepest sympathies to Saoirse and her family on the passing of baby Jax and wish her every success in the campaign she has begun.
