The man charged with plotting to assassinate pro-life US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is due to plead guilty, his defence team said earlier this week.

Nicholas John Roske travelled from California to Maryland in 2022 with the intent to kill Justice Kavanaugh. When arrested near the justice’s home, the then 26-year old was carrying a Glock 17 pistol, several rounds of ammunition, a knife, zip ties, pepper spray and duct tape.

He told police he intended to kill Justice Kavanaugh as he was upset with the contents of the leaked draft Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson abortion case, the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, making it possible for pro-life laws to be passed at state level in the US for the first time since 1973.

The attempted assassination of a Supreme Court Justice is obviously an extremely serious matter and it has received considerable coverage in the US. It’s worth noting however that RTÉ News never reported on the incident, something that we can say with confidence would not have happened if the life of a pro-abortion judge had been targeted in the same way. The double standards at our taxpayer funded national broadcasting station continues to be a scandal and we should never tire from pointing this out. It’s the only way that change will eventually happen.
