A pro-assisted suicide campaigner – accused of posting material online that has reportedly been connected to the deaths of more than 90 people in the UK alone, including several teenagers – recently held a workshop in London instructing attendees on suicide methods.

The group Right-to-Life UK reports that Dr Philip Nitschke, who is nicknamed ‘Dr Death’ and is the inventor of the Sarco suicide machine, adressed some 70 people from across the country who attended the event to learn about how to end their lives.

Nitschke is director of the extreme pro-assisted suicide campaign group Exit International, which offers “information and guidance” on suicide methods to thousands online. He is currently under investigation in Switzerland over claims of illegal assisted suicide linked to his most infamous creation, the Sarco gas-based assisted-suicide pod.His presentation in London included footage of an American woman who killed herself in his Sarco pod.

It is alarming that Nitschke is permitted to advertise and give public demonstrations of how to use his suicide pod, which has one single objective and that’s to end people’s lives. The State has a duty to protect vulnerable people from people like Dr Nitschke. By failing to safeguard its citizens, the government – in this instance the UK government – becomes complicit in the loss of any lives caused by Nitschke’s grim and despicable actions.
