We recently learned the very sad news of the untimely death of our beautiful friend, Mary Ann O’Driscoll, in a traffic accident in Liberia, West Africa.
In 2013, Mary Ann joined the Franciscan Liberia Mission which provides education to over 300 Liberian students and operates a residential home for over 50 young people. Mary Ann came to love Liberia, its people and her work. Earlier this year she was appointed Director of the Mission.
During holidays back in Ireland, she generously made time to volunteer with the Pro Life Campaign. Using her exceptional communication and organisational skills, she played a key role in preparations for the National Vigil for Life in 2014 and other events.
Mary Ann sparkled with fun and laughter. She was always interested in the people she met and always selfless in reaching out to others.
In an article for the Glasnevin Parish Newsletter, she gave a moving testimony to the deep Christian faith which inspired her work.
Her untimely death aged just 24 grieves all of us deeply. We offer our sympathy to her mother and father, sisters and brothers, and wider family and friends. We know they will be comforted in their grief by the good God in whom they have never failed to trust. They will reflect with joy and gratitude on Mary Ann’s tremendous contribution, in her too-short life, to the great cause of promoting human dignity.
Mary Ann was a very special person from an inspiring and exemplary family. We ask you to pray for the happy repose of her soul, and for their consolation at this time.
We will all miss her terribly. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal
