New research published this week by the Charlotte Lozier Institute in the US shows that between 2002 and 2015 there was an over 500% increase in emergency admissions to hospital following chemical abortion complications.
The study also found that women who had chemical abortions had a 22% greater risk of an admission to an emergency department for any reason, and a 53% greater risk of an emergency department visit for an abortion-related reason.
Significantly, the study also found that many hospital visits for abortion-related complications were incorrectly logged as treatment for spontaneous miscarriage. It is reckless and dangerous for abortion providers to misrepresent the situation in this way when post abortion complications occur, but sadly is not uncommon.
A number of years back, State funded pro-abortion counsellors in Ireland were exposed for engaging in the same misreporting when they were caught on tape coaching women to lie to their doctors and say they had miscarriages if they presented at a surgery or hospital with post abortion complications. A file was referred to the DPP at the time following a Garda investigation but charges against the individuals involved were not pressed in the end.
