PLC welcomes rejection of Repeal the 8th motion by Civil Public and Services Union
The Pro Life Campaign has welcomed the rejection of a motion at the annual conference of the Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU), where delegates decided not to campaign for abortion rights in Ireland or the repeal of the 8th Amendment to the Constitution.
Commenting on the motion, PLC spokesperson Cora Sherlock said:
“The rejection of this motion is be welcomed. There is nothing liberal, compassionate or caring about voting for repeal of the Right to Life Amendment. By refusing to campaign for its repeal, the CPSU has acknowledged that every human being, born or unborn, should be protected under Irish law.
“We need to work towards a society where women facing unplanned pregnancies are provided with the financial, social and emotional supports they need that will enable them to look after their children. Ensuring that the 8th Amendment remains in place is a step in the right direction towards the kind of genuinely caring society where we all want to live.”
