A 26-year old man was charged on Wednesday with the attempted murder of US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Nicholas John Roske from California appeared before a district court in Maryland to face the charge after being arrested by law enforcement officers in the early hours of Wednesday morning on a street close to the home of Justice Kavanaugh.
When arrested, Roske was carrying a Glock 17 pistol, several rounds of ammunition, a knife, zip ties, pepper spray and duct tape. He told police he intended to kill Justice Kavanaugh as he was upset with the contents of the leaked draft Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson abortion case.
This latest alarming incident comes in the wake of an upsurge in attacks in recent days on pro-life centres throughout the US, in anticipation of the Supreme Court’s decision that’s likely to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that legalised abortion up to birth across the United States.
On Monday, a pro-life centre in Buffalo New York was firebombed by the extremist pro-abortion group ‘Jane Was Here’. Also this week, the pro-life Mountain Area pregnancy centre in Asheville, North Carolina was attacked and vandalised. Last weekend, participants who take part in the pro-life monthly event called Witness for Life in New York City were physically restrained by pro-abortion activists from letting the peaceful event proceed. In another incident last weekend, pro-abortion campaigners in San Francisco attempted to interrupt the ordination ceremony of the Archdiocese’s newest priests. At present, religious services and masses across the US are being interrupted weekly by pro-abortion activists shouting obscenities and stopping the services from continuing. Threatening messages like “If abortion isn’t safe, you aren’t either” are being spray painted onto the walls of churches and pro-life centres throughout the US.
Leading abortion supporters in the US, including those in government, are very reluctant to condemn what’s going on. Their silence is allowing tensions to grow, leading to the incidents becoming more extreme by the day.
In Ireland, the media here are all but ignoring the dastardly attacks happening in the US. RTÉ, for example, still hasn’t reported on the latest incident involving the man charged with the attempted murder of Justice Kavanaugh. Are you surprised? After all, 95% of RTÉ’s coverage on abortion leans pro-abortion. An organisation with a record that biased isn’t going to be in any hurry sharing with its viewers that a pro-abortion advocate has just been charged with such a heinous crime. Can you picture the weeks of round the clock coverage RTÉ would be devoting to the story if the perpetrator had claimed to be pro-life? Sadly, we can visualise the scene only too well.
