HSE spend taxpayers' money to fund one-sided pro-euthanasia lecture

The decision of the Health Service Executive to spend taxpayers' money funding an openly pro-euthanasia lecture is disgraceful. The one-sided lecture entitled "Why Euthanasia should be legalised" takes place on Thursday 9th April in Cork University Hospital.
The statutory role of the HSE is to provide assured quality care to the most vulnerable members of society. It has absolutely no business promoting euthanasia as a legitimate cost saving measure.
The guest speaker for the lecture, Professor Len Doyal, is a noted supporter of involuntary as well as voluntary euthanasia in Britain. He also advocates euthanasia as a means of reducing health care costs.
Commenting on the situation, Dr. Berry Kiely of the Pro-Life Campaign said:
"Any state funded advocacy of euthanasia undermines social solidarity. In light of what has happened, the government has a duty to reassure vulnerable groups in society that it totally opposes any form of euthanasia and cherishes the dignity and value of every human life. It should also instruct the HSE to stop wasting taxpayers' money on such partisan advocacy in the future."
