Pro Life Campaign comments on customs seizure of abortion drugs

26th October 2010

Reports in the media today claim that over 1,000 packages containing abortion drugs were seized by Irish custom officials in 2009. The Irish Medicines Board confirmed the number of seizures and said that in conjunction with the customs authorities and An Garda Síochána it is continuing to monitor the situation.

Commenting on the news, Dr Ruth Cullen of the Pro Life Campaign said:

"This is not at all unique to Ireland.  In countries where abortion is legal, similar problems exist.  The reality of internet sales of illegal and counterfeit drugs is a public health issue that every jurisdiction has to contend with

The call by Choice Ireland to make abortion available based on the latest reports is to be expected as they seek abortion on demand in Ireland and do not believe the unborn child is entitled to any legal protection whatsoever.

Women’s health in pregnancy is an issue that is taken very seriously in this country. The latest UN maternal mortality statistics, published in September, show that Ireland continues to be a top world leader in safety for women during pregnancy, much safer than countries like Britain and Holland, where abortion is legal on demand"
